River Rats

The Mixon family held their annual July 4 celebration on Tuesday, July 4 at our place on Black River. There was much eating of hotdogs, hamburgers and various chips, dips and such, as usual. What would a Mixon family event be without an abundance of food?

For anyone who isn't familiar with Black River, it is a relatively quiet, black-water river that originates in Sumter County and gently winds its way through the eastern South Carolina flatlands and cypress swamps, where it merges with the Pee Dee, right before they empty into Winyah Bay at Georgetown, S.C.

All of the kids enjoyed themselves in the river. Jumping into the deep water from Grandaddy's dock seems to be a favorite activity among the kids (and some adults!), as well as wading in the shallower waters at the landing.

And here's a picture of the man who makes it all possible: my daddy, Phillip Mixon! Here he is relaxing on the dock, undoubtedly telling a joke and watching the kids enjoy themselves.
